Rockliffe Fellowes
Biography
Rockliffe Fellowes, born in what is now Ottawa, was a Canadian actor who moved from a business career into theater in 1907, making his stage debut in Brown of Harvard. He appeared on Broadway in Love's Understudy and in a 1912 double bill that paired The Best People with The Gods of the Mountain, and also toured with Robert Loraine's company, playing Man and Superman in Toronto. His screen debut came as the hero of Raoul Walsh's silent gangster film Regeneration (1915). He appeared in more than 60 films, mostly silent, and was perhaps best remembered as the gangster Joe Helton in the Marx Brothers comedy Monkey Business (1931). After a string of westerns, he retired from acting in 1934 and spent his later years teaching and writing. His last screen appearance was in Rusty Rides Alone.
