Richard Denning

Biography

Richard Denning was an American actor best known for 1950s science fiction and horror films. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, he moved to Los Angeles as an infant. He took minor screen roles in the 1930s and early 1940s before serving in the Navy during World War II. After the war he starred on radio opposite Lucille Ball in My Favorite Husband (1948 to 1951), the forerunner of I Love Lucy. He later headlined the detective series Michael Shayne from 1960 to 1961, played Steve Scott in Karen in 1964 and 1965, and had a recurring part as Governor Paul Jameson on Hawaii Five-O (1968 to 1980). His films included An Affair to Remember (1957), Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), The Black Scorpion (1957), Unknown Island (1948), Target Earth (1954) and Day the World Ended (1955). He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
