Peggy Webber
Biography
Peggy Webber was an American actress and writer whose work ranged across radio, film, television and the stage. Born in Laredo, Texas, she was entertaining theater audiences at intermission times before she turned three, and she made her radio debut at 12 in San Antonio. Her screen debut came in Her Adventurous Night, and she later played Lady Macduff in Orson Welles's Macbeth (1948), Alice Dennerly in Alfred Hitchcock's The Wrong Man (1956) and the leading role of Jenni Whitlock in the horror film The Screaming Skull (1958). On television she turned up often on M Squad and Dragnet, and she founded California Artists Radio Theatre. She wrote and directed many stage plays, radio and television programs, and in 2014 became the first woman to receive the Norman Corwin Award for Excellence in Audio Theatre. She died in 2026.

First role
Webber first went on the radio at 12 on WOAI in San Antonio, Texas. A 1946 Time article said that over three years her voice had brought 150 different characters to some 2,500 broadcasts.
Behind the camera
Webber wrote and directed roughly 250 programs for stage, radio and television. She also wrote and produced Treasures of Literature, an early television program.
