Neal Adams

Biography

Neal Adams was an American comic book artist known for revitalizing Batman and co-creating John Stewart, Man-Bat, and Ra's al Ghul. Born in New York City, he began with the Ben Casey newspaper strip in the early 1960s. Hired by DC Comics in 1967, he drew Deadman in Strange Adventures, and with Dennis O'Neil produced influential early 1970s runs on Batman and Green Lantern/Green Arrow. Those stories returned Batman to a gothic tone and brought mature themes to Green Lantern. He also drew Superman vs. Muhammad Ali and contributed to Marvel's X-Men and The Avengers. In 1971 he co-founded Continuity Associates; in 1984 he launched Continuity Comics, which ran until 1994. He directed and starred in Nannaz and appeared in a PBS documentary. He was inducted into the Will Eisner, Jack Kirby, and Joe Sinnott halls of fame in 1998, 1999, and 2019 respectively.
