Maureen Swanson

Maureen Swanson was a British actress who appeared in British films through the 1950s. Born in Glasgow, she began with classical ballet at Sadler's Wells Ballet School, later moving into musical theater and film. While touring in Carousel, she won a key role in Moulin Rouge (1952), which led to larger parts in Valley of Song and MGM's Knights of the Round Table (1953). Hammer gave her the female lead in its film noir Third Party Risk (1954). After the Rank Organization signed her to a long-term contract, she played supporting parts in A Town Like Alice (1956) and Jacqueline, then starred opposite Norman Wisdom in Up in the World and Dirk Bogarde in The Spanish Gardener. She also played the lead in Robbery Under Arms (1957) and appeared on the West End stage in The Happiest Millionaire. Rank dropped her from its books in 1958, and she retired from acting in 1961.
