Larry Thomas
Biography
Larry Thomas is an American actor who became widely known for playing Yev Kassem, the Soup Nazi, on Seinfeld. Born in Brooklyn in 1956, he moved to California at age 11. Before acting, he worked as a bail bondsman and court investigator. After taking an acting workshop taught by Jeffrey Tambor, classmates convinced Tambor to write to Marc Hirschfeld, the casting director for both The Larry Sanders Show and Seinfeld. Thomas was a fan of Seinfeld and auditioned in character and a military uniform, winning the role by improvising the Soup Nazi's catchphrase. His performance earned a 1996 Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, and he reprised the role in the series finale. He later appeared as a blackjack dealer in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, played Osama bin Laden in Postal (2007), and guest-starred in Scrubs, Drake & Josh, and Arrested Development.
