Biography

Jackie Moran was an American movie actor whose screen career ran from 1936 to 1946, when he made more than 30 films, usually in teenage parts. A native of Mattoon, Illinois, he came to Hollywood for a 1935 screen test after Mary Pickford discovered him. Billed as Jackie Moran, he moved into sizable supporting roles. His breakthrough came with David O. Selznick's Technicolor The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938), in which he played Huckleberry Finn to Tommy Kelly's Tom Sawyer and earned critical praise for a natural acting style. He went on to headline youth pictures for low-budget studios like Republic and Monogram, often with Marcia Mae Jones. Other credits include Mad About Music, the 12-chapter serial Buck Rogers as Buddy Wade, The Spirit of Culver (1939), and Selznick's Since You Went Away (1944). He closed his film career with teenage musical comedies, ending with Columbia's Betty Co-Ed.
