Inez Cooper
Biography
Inez Cooper was an American actress whose likeness to Hedy Lamarr drew attention during her career. Before films, she worked in a Miami department store and did modeling. Producer Mervyn LeRoy came across her in 1941 at a California nightclub, thought she was Lamarr, and after a screen test gave her a contract. She then studied dramatics, but for a while she received only small roles. Early credits included Whistling in the Dark and also Du Barry Was a Lady. In 1943 she spoke of how frustrating the Lamarr comparison was and thought about changing her hair color. That year she played the female lead in the romance Wings Over the Pacific, the sole woman in the principal cast, and Monogram Pictures wanted her for two more features. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer eventually let her go. She died in 1993.
