Hiroshi Koizumi

Biography

Hiroshi Koizumi was a Japanese actor who became a regular in Toho Studios' science fiction films. Born in Kamakura City, he graduated from Keio University in 1948 and worked as an announcer for NHK television before joining Toho's New Face acting class in 1951. He made his screen debut in Toho's The Man Who Came to Port (1952) and first starred as the pilot Shoichi Tsukioka in Godzilla Raids Again (1955). Koizumi was best known for playing doctors, professors and scientists. In Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) he played Professor Miura, a part he took up again in Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964). He also appeared in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) and Godzilla 1985 (1985), again as a professor or scientist. In the 1990s, he produced several films and hosted the game show Quiz Grand Prix. He died in 2015.
