George Memmoli
Biography
George Memmoli was an American actor who helped found the improv group Ace Trucking Company. Born in New York City, he became a frequent collaborator of director Martin Scorsese, playing a pool hall owner in Mean Streets (1973) and appearing in New York, New York (1977) and American Boy: A Profile of Steven Prince. He took character parts for other directors as well, among them Philbin in Brian De Palma's Phantom of the Paradise (1974) and Jenkins in Paul Schrader's Blue Collar (1978). In Rocky (1976) he was the rink worker who lets Rocky and Adrian have a first date on the ice, and he played Earl, the engineer, during the first season of Hello, Larry. His last television work was a 1984 episode of Hill Street Blues, and his final screen role was Uncle Nunzi in The Sure Thing (1985). He died in 1985.
