Biography

Clarissa Kaye-Mason was an Australian actress in theater, film and television. Born in Sydney in 1931, she joined a group of informal students taught by Hayes Gordon, a teacher of the Method, in 1958; the group gave its first public performances in one-act plays by Tennessee Williams and later grew into the Ensemble, a professional Sydney company and the city's first theater in the round. In 1962 she took archetypal roles in Melbourne at a theater in Russell Street, in The Shifting Heart and, as Olive, in The Summer of the Seventeenth Doll. Gian Carlo Manara directed her in a 1968 television adaptation of Henry Lawson's short story The Drover's Wife, with Kaye in the title role, and she also had a part in Adventure Unlimited. Her first feature part came in Age of Consent (1969), as Meg, opposite James Mason. She later played the mother of Mick Jagger's Ned Kelly. She died in 1994.
