Plot summary
Chinook helicopters ferry the Second Platoon of Battle Company into Combat Outpost Korengal, a remote position in eastern Afghanistan's Korengal Valley, with Taliban fighters in the terrain around them. Over a 15 month deployment the soldiers aim to cut the flow of enemy fighters and weapons, protect the building of a road, and earn the trust of the local population. They are young and inexperienced, and the posting is counted among the most dangerous in the U.S. Military. Captain Dan Kearney orders his men to seize a nearby mountaintop and raise an advanced outpost, which they name Restrepo. Firefights break out there almost daily, and the platoon's negotiations with village leaders range from friendly to hostile.
