Plot summary
Bill Maher, raised Catholic by a Catholic father and a Jewish mother, sets out to challenge organized religion, which he considers a hindrance to society's progress. He visits religious destinations around the world, among them Jerusalem, the Vatican City and Salt Lake City, interviewing believers, leaders and former members of many faiths: Christians, Muslims, ex-Mormons and Hasidic Jews. He tours the Creation Museum in Kentucky, whose exhibits place dinosaurs and people in the same era, and the Holy Land Experience in Florida. At Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park he preaches Scientology beliefs. He raises tenets such as the virgin birth and the story of Jonah, and cites a rising number of non-believers in North America.
