- The film is based on the real Pureza, who denounced slave labour in Brazil's north to three presidents of the Republic and received a human rights award in London in 1997.
- During filming, the real Pureza, who lives in Bacabal, 234 km from São Luís, arrived at the production base in Brejo do Meio, in rural Marabá, and around 80 members of the film crew applauded her.
- To enrich the narrative, real rural workers were integrated into the film's crew of 80 professionals, reinforcing what director Renato Barbieri called the "place of speech of the oppressed".
