Plot summary
In 1970 the United States is weighing where to place bases on the Moon. A flight is arranged to circle the Moon and survey possible landing sites. Colonel Briteis commands the crew; four years earlier she had been the first person to orbit the Earth. Major Bill Moore and Doctor Wernher fly with her. Moore was drawn to Briteis when the two were starting out in the United States Space Force, and she set his attentions aside for her ambition to reach the Moon before anyone. Briteis is wary of Moore.
