Plot summary
Ryan Fleege and his wife Emily have just moved into a house in Santa Rosa, California, with their daughter Leila, who is six, and Ryan's brother Mike, who arrives after a breakup in Chicago. The household is preparing for Christmas, and Leila has an imaginary friend she calls Tobi. In the house, Mike comes across a box of video tapes from 1988 to 1992 and a large camera. The tapes show two girls, Katie and Kristi, who live with their mother, and later show the girls at their grandmother's house, practicing supernatural abilities with a mysterious man. Ryan and his brother see that the girls on the tapes seem aware of the family's home. Ryan finds that the camera picks up beings the eye cannot see and begins recording throughout the house.
