Plot summary
Günter is four years old when he is discovered in a German forest, and a foster family raises him. Now in his forties, he earns his living as an actor on stage, looks after his daughter Lizzy, and carries on an affair with a married woman. A strenuous theater production takes up much of his time, and a puzzling encounter in the street leaves him with bewildering dreams. On a bridge, a stranger whispers a single word in his ear. Until that whisper, Günter has never wondered about where he comes from.
