Plot summary
In New York City's Garment District, Thana works as a mute seamstress at a small clothing firm with Laurie and two other women. Her boss Albert yells at his employees. Thana lives alone in Clinton Gardens. Walking home from the grocery store one evening, she is grabbed in an alley by a mugger who rapes her and takes her purse. She reaches her apartment while a burglar is robbing it, and he rapes her at gunpoint. Afterward she strikes him with a flatiron and kills him, then drags his body to the bathtub and keeps his .45 caliber pistol. The next day she cuts the body into pieces, bags them, and stores them in her refrigerator and freezer. Her landlady, Mrs. Nasone, notices her odd behavior.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Ms .45 (1981)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Ms .45 was shot on location in New York City over four weeks in February and March 1980, often without official filming permits, on a budget of about US$62,000 (roughly US$228,600 in 2026).
- Abel Ferrara received the script for Ms .45 in the mail from Nicholas St. John, who had written his previous film The Driller Killer. Ferrara claimed he shot it without changing a thing, but cinematographer James Lemmo found the script thin and St. John added dialogue as shooting went on.
- The Image Entertainment DVD of Ms .45, released in April 2000, was re-edited and removes less than a minute: the cuts change the first rape, which features a cameo by director Abel Ferrara, and cut the second rape more drastically, dropping the line "This oughta make you talk, huh?"
