Plot summary

With his mathematics studies in West Germany finished, Stefan Brückner sets out to see the world and hitchhikes as far as Paris. A barroom gambling session brings him together with Charlie, who lives by small-time crime, and Charlie takes him along to a party. There Stefan is drawn to Estelle Miller, an American known as the pussycat. Charlie tells him she takes drugs and is bad news, but Stefan goes to her hotel room anyway, where she offers him marijuana and they sleep together. Estelle is bound for Ibiza and asks Stefan to come after her. On Ibiza, a dealer he gets friendly with at a bar explains that she is entangled with Dr. Ernesto Wolf, a rich Spanish former Nazi. Stefan talks her into moving with him into a secluded villa.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about More (1969)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Before More could be released, the French film censorship board in 1969 ordered dialogue censored around the 81-minute mark: the words "benzedrine" and "banana peel", spoken as a couple mixes a hallucinogenic concoction in a kitchen, were cut from the audio track. DVD versions restored them as subtitles.
  • Barbet Schroeder did not want a conventional film score for More. He wanted the music to come from inside a scene, such as a car radio switched on or a television, so the soundtrack related exactly to what was happening in the film.
