Plot summary
Invited by his old friend Freddy Ross, John Berlin quits the Los Angeles police for the Eureka force in Northern California after his marriage collapses. At the town dump he finds a woman's severed hand; the scars and worn fingertips tell him she read Braille, so the victim was blind. The department had already spent six months on an unidentified girl it called Jennifer, and Berlin believes the hand belongs to a further victim. John Taylor, passed over for promotion to make room for him, and chief Citrine reject the link. Former colleagues in Los Angeles tell him of six women, most of them blind, found dead or missing within 300 miles of San Diego over four years. He meets Helena Robertson, a blind music teacher whose roommate Amber was among the victims.

- Bruce Robinson said the worst thing to happen before filming Jennifer 8 was casting Andy García; he had written the lead not for a handsome young actor but for "a shagged out old cop like Gene Hackman or Al Pacino".
