Plot summary
Giacomo is an extravagant heir to an industrial fortune who would rather give his time to thoughts and fantasies than to business, and who believes deeply in reincarnation. His father died when he was still a young boy, and forty years later an esoteric will changes Giacomo's life: it tells him that his father has been reborn and names the man, Mario Pitagora, a con man whose only interest is money and who is heavily in debt. Giacomo meets him and befriends him, convinced that his dead father has come back, though Mario has nothing spiritual about him at all.
