Plot summary
Catherine and Charles Scorsese, the children of Italian immigrants, sit down to dinner with their son in their New York apartment on Elizabeth Street. Over the meal, their son asks them about their lives. The discussion is lively and candid. The couple discusses their upbringing, family, religion and marriage, as well as their Italian ancestors and post-war life in Italy. They describe the hardships poor Sicilian immigrants faced while striving to succeed in America, and their family's path from Sicily to New York. Catherine also shows how she makes meatballs. The conversation moves between memories of Sicily and stories of settling in New York.
