Plot summary
Agnes and Henny are inseparable for a year in their early adulthood, until a falling out ends the friendship. More than ten years pass without contact. Erich Neuman-Hansen, Agnes's much older husband, has died of leukemia, and at his funeral Agnes notices Henny standing at a distance. Erich leaves half his estate to Agnes and half to his adult children, Thomas and Carla. The house has long belonged to the Neuman-Hansen family, and Agnes expects it to be held in trust for her. Thomas has never trusted his stepmother and persuades Carla to claim their share now; without the money to buy them out, Agnes loses the house. Henny, who is wealthy and married to the theater producer Peter Grossman, offers Agnes the money to buy out Thomas and Carla if she kills Peter.
