Plot summary
In a video she has recorded, Li Ronan begs viewers to learn an insignia by heart and recite an incantation, which she hopes will lift the curse on her six-year-old daughter, Dodo. Six years before, Ronan was newly pregnant and making videos with her boyfriend Dom and his cousin Yuan for their online channel, which set out to debunk superstitions. A message from Dom's family summoned him to a clan ritual held once every two decades in a remote mountain village, and the three went there to film it.

- The film is inspired by a 2005 case in Gushan District, Kaohsiung, where a family of six claimed they were possessed by folk deities and demons; they burned each other with incense, beat each other with sticks and spirit tablets and threw feces and urine until the eldest daughter died of her injuries.
- By June 2022 Incantation had grossed 170 million TWD (5.7 million USD), making it the highest-grossing 2022 film in Taiwan and the highest-grossing Taiwanese horror film of all time.
- Director Kevin Ko said the Mother Buddha, the hand gestures, chant and symbols in the film are entirely fictitious, and that much of the budget went on designing and making the props, especially the large Mother Buddha statue.
