Plot summary
At Christmas, Jimmy is an out-of-work actor whom people generally dislike. He owes a local bookie $900. The bookie threatens to break bones if the debt is not cleared. Knowing he will get little sympathy, Jimmy tells his girlfriend that his sister needs an emergency abortion and that he must find the money. Ray goes to the friends who owe him money and asks each of them for the cash, and a bartender and a friendly customer at the bar also ask around for contributions. Everyone roams among Christmas parties, and word of the need passes from one person to another.
