Mac and Sam are photographers at a magazine, Garam Masala, and its boss warns them that their pay will be cut unless they bring back pictures good enough for a world photography competition. Mac is engaged to a doctor, Anjali, who walks out of one of his shoots because of how closely he works with the models. He and Sam are both drawn to Maggie, the boss's secretary, and each asks her to the same restaurant at the same hour.
