Plot summary
As a child, Tina Shepard tears the dock apart at Crystal Lake with a power she does not know she has, and her father John drowns while trying to follow her boat. Years later her mother Amanda brings the teenage Tina back to the same lakeside house for treatment under Dr. Crews, who provokes her until her telekinesis sharpens, though he wants her powers rather than her health. Next door, a group of teenagers plan a birthday party for Michael Rogers, and Nick, just arrived for it, takes an interest in Tina. After one session too many, Tina runs to the dock, thinks of her father and wishes him back, and the wish wakes Jason Voorhees, chained at the bottom of the lake seven years earlier.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Associate producer Barbara Sachs wanted the seventh film to be more respectable than the previous entries; screenwriter Daryl Haney said she wanted it to be unlike any other Friday the 13th movie and to win an Academy Award. Several high-profile directors were considered, including Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini.
- C. J. Graham, who had played Jason in Part VI, was considered again, but Kane Hodder was chosen for his work on the film Prison, whose special effects make-up was done by this film's director, John Carl Buechler. On Prison it was Hodder who suggested the live maggots spilling from his mouth.
- For the scene in which Tina Shepard causes a furnace to shoot flames at Jason, Hodder was actually set on fire by a rig that let the ignition be captured on film rather than added later with trick photography. He was on fire for a full forty seconds, a record at the time.
- Though one contemporary critic called the film "nearly devoid of blood and gore by '80s slasher standards", several explicit gore scenes were still cut in order to avoid an X rating.
- The film's original working title was Birthday Bash, chosen to conceal its identity as a Friday the 13th film, and the entire production was scheduled, completed and released within seven months.
