Richard Blaney, a former RAF squadron leader, loses his job behind a pub bar near the Covent Garden produce market, where his friend Bob Rusk sells fruit and vegetables. SPOILER
Alfred Hitchcock's first choice to play killer Bob Rusk was Michael Caine, who refused the part; Caine later said Hitchcock offered him a role as a sadist who murdered women and never spoke to him again after he turned it down.- Malcolm McDowell was offered a role in Frenzy but turned it down, calling the script 'absolute rubbish,' though he later admitted he regretted missing the chance to work with Hitchcock.
- During filming, Hitchcock's wife and longtime collaborator Alma suffered a stroke, and some scenes had to be shot without him on set so he could care for her.
- Frenzy was the first Alfred Hitchcock film to contain nudity, setting aside the arguable exception of the shower scene in Psycho.
- The son of a Covent Garden produce merchant himself, Hitchcock filmed the market as a personal tribute before it closed; an elderly man who remembered Hitchcock's father working there visited the set and was treated to lunch by the director.
