Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- After the film screened at the 2006 Sitges Film Festival, After Dark Films founder Courtney Solomon re-edited it to add more gore and violence, believing it would boost box office the way Hostel had, but it flopped anyway and he later admitted, 'It's overkill. I think audiences have said, "I've had enough."'
- Joss Whedon became the public face of a movement pressing the MPAA to remove the film's rating, under guidelines saying that a film advertised with material the MPAA has not approved may forfeit its right to be rated.
- The MPAA ruled on 28 March 2007 that, as punishment, it would not consider rating the film until at least 30 April, making an 18 May release less likely, and in an unprecedented move required approval of all forthcoming advertisements.
