Plot summary
John Logue, a twenty-eight-year-old graphic designer in San Francisco, spends the run-up to the 2004 election campaigning for John Kerry and writing a blog called the Donkey Revolution. Drunk, he announces publicly that he will leave the country if George W. Bush wins. Bush does win, and his employer and friends take the vow seriously, so he settles on Winnipeg. There he is to meet Gloria O'Neill, who runs an organization that pairs Americans with Canadian spouses so they can claim citizenship. John advertises for someone to split the driving and chooses Chloe Hamon, a young woman who follows his blog and is vague about her own reasons for going north.
