Plot summary
Six years after escaping Guantanamo Bay, Harold Lee and Kumar Patel have not spoken in two years. Harold works on Wall Street, has married Maria, and has given up cannabis. Kumar, thrown out of medical school after a failed drug test, still lives in the apartment they once shared. Maria's relatives come for Christmas, among them her father, Mr. Perez, who dislikes Harold and brings a Fraser fir he has grown for eight years; Harold promises to decorate it. A package addressed to Harold reaches the old apartment, and Kumar delivers it. Inside is a large marijuana joint, and when Harold throws it out the window it lands in the tree and sets it on fire. With the tree gone, Kumar says his neighbor Adrian knows a party with a Fraser fir.
