Plot summary
The only witness to a couple's murder on a Chicago beach is Colonel Peter Wayne, a retired Vietnam War veteran. Sergeant Connor and Detective Johnny Haller question Wayne about the killings blamed on the Lakefront Butcher, a man dressed like a hippie. Assistant District Attorney Ralph Kennedy joins them, and his girlfriend, the reporter Susan Rather, is investigating the case as well. Two more couples die over the next two nights, and the deaths match a pattern of unsolved murders: five couples killed over five nights, every five years, in the fifth month. The earliest known spree was in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1968.

- Massacre Video owner Louis C. Justin acquired the rights to 555 from Roy Koz only after negotiations stalled, when Koz emailed to offer them for the price of a new engine because the diesel motor on his boat had broken.
