Plot summary
Pierre Levasseur, a wealthy Parisian executive, is photographed leaving a secret hideaway with Elena, a top model. The picture appears on the front page of a newspaper, and his wife Christine confronts him. He tells her he does not know the woman and that she must have been with the man walking beside them, a parking valet named François Pignon. Christine holds the majority share of his business, so a divorce would cost him his fortune. Elena gives him an ultimatum to choose between her and his wife. His lawyer Maître Foix sees one way out: locate the stranger and present him as Elena's boyfriend. François loves Émilie, a bookstore owner in debt, and he takes the offer.
