Plot summary
Dr. Maxwell Kirshner, a renowned transplant surgeon who owns the Kirshner Transplant Institute in California, is dying. To test whether two heads can live on one body, he has grafted a second head onto a gorilla. Kirshner recruits Dr. Fred Williams to assist with his surgery, then tries to cancel the arrangement once he sees that Williams is black. Kirshner calls in a favor with the governor to obtain a body from death row instead of a scheduled execution. Jack Moss, an inmate who says he is innocent, volunteers for the experiment in exchange for more time to prove it. Police bring Jack to the institute, and the doctors transplant Kirshner's head onto his body.
