Plot summary
Steve Myers is fed up with the dishonesty he sees in court, so he abandons his law practice, buys a small fishing boat and makes his living on the water. Lightning strikes the boat and destroys it. The insurance company reviews his claim and refuses to pay, saying it bears no liability because the loss was an act of God. With no money to replace the vessel, Steve files a claim against God and names religious officials as the representatives who answer for God. Their lawyers and insurers must find a way to settle the matter, and in court God's representatives have to admit the boat was destroyed by God's act and compensate him, or deny it and deny God's existence, leaving Steve to prove his claim.

- On 15 February Bob Carr, then Premier of New South Wales, visited the set and presented a cheque for $50,000 to Gannon Films as a grant to offset the cost of filming in a regional location; the two-week shoot brought an estimated $250,000 to the local economy.
- The producers licensed the right to remake the film in Hindi for release in India, and OMG - Oh My God!, with an Indian story, a quite different plotline and an altered climax, was released in 2012 and was a box office hit there.
- In 2014 New Films International hired Larry Charles to write a remake of the film, but that remake has yet to be produced.
- The film was remade a further time as Frank vs. God, starring Henry Ian Cusick, which was released in 2016.
