The Gospel (2005) on Netflix

Plot summary

In Atlanta, David Taylor was studying for the ministry under his father, Bishop Fred Taylor, the pastor of an evangelical church. After his mother died suddenly and his father arrived late to her side, David accused him of putting his congregation before his family and left home. He settled in Los Angeles, where he became an R&B performer in nightclubs and lived self-indulgently. When word reaches him that his father is ill, David returns to Atlanta and finds the congregation in disarray. His former best friend, Charles Frank, now serves as the bishop's second and is married to Charlene. Fred tells his son he has prostate cancer, and David begins to take on a larger role in the church.
