Plot summary
A girl of about ten lives in a lone farmhouse on the edge of the Jura mountains in eastern France. Riding her bicycle to school one autumn day, she passes through the forest and watches a fox hunt. The fox runs off, and the wish to meet it again stays with her. She searches the woods whenever she can, without seeing it before winter. Following its tracks in the snow one day, she hears a wolf pack howling nearby, runs in panic, and hurts her ankle.
