Plot summary
The business corporation began as an institution chartered by government to carry out particular public functions and became a commercial body able to claim many of the legal rights a person enjoys. The film stays with North American corporations, above all those in the United States, and builds its account from case studies and interviews. Among its episodes are a 1933 alleged corporate plot against President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower's warning about the military-industrial complex, a Tampa television station's suppressed report on bovine growth hormone, protests in Cochabamba over privatized water, and the Coca-Cola Company's invention of Fanta during the Nazi trade embargo. A psychology professor who consults for the FBI compares the conduct of profitable corporations with clinical psychopathy, while corporate critics and chief executives give their own views of the model.
