Plot summary
During the bakumatsu period, as the samurai era ends in the mid-19th century, the Shinsengumi defends the Tokugawa shogunate against reformist forces. The elite unit is led by Isami Kondo and governed by a rigid code. Into its ranks comes Sozaburo Kano, a young and very skilled swordsman. It is his looks that unsettle the compound: the group is strictly male, and students and superiors alike are drawn to him, vying for his affections. Recruits train in swordfighting there, and tension builds in the training room. The school's stern master can step in, or leave Kano to choose his own path.
