Plot summary
Two graduate students are detained in the wake of the September 11 attacks, and their interrogations are told as parallel stories with nearly identical dialogue. Linda Sykes, an American, is held in the People's Republic of China by a military officer, Liu Tsung-Yuan. In New York City, Sharif Bin Said, an Arab, is held by the FBI agents Karen Moore and Ned McGrath. Neither student is held on hard evidence, and the activities they are questioned about may or may not be tied to a terrorist plot. The methods of questioning used in the two cases are the same, and the sessions begin on an amicable note.
