Plot summary
Richard "Stick" Montgomery breaks out of Stonehurst Prison with his cousin Caylor Reese, and the FBI asks Seattle police to watch everyone he might contact. Maria McGuire, a waitress who broke off with him long ago, draws the night team: partners Chris Lecce and Bill Reimers, parked outside her house in case Montgomery shows up. Lecce, whose wife has moved out and taken the furniture, poses as a telephone lineman and uses that role to meet her, and he helps her brother Ray find work. A call from Montgomery to Maria is cut before it can be traced, and Chris falls for the woman he is supposed to be watching. Bill covers the stakeout alone while his partner is inside.
