Plot summary
Ste-Marie-La-Mauderne, on Quebec's north coast, has lost its fishing industry, and its 120 residents live on welfare. A plastics company has promised a factory nearby if the village can produce a resident doctor, so Germain Lesage, its new mayor, works out how to get one. The chance arrives when Montreal plastic surgeon Christopher Lewis is stopped for speeding by Réal Fournier, a former mayor of the village who now lives in the city. Fournier finds cocaine on him and offers to let the matter drop if Lewis spends a month in Ste-Marie-La-Mauderne. Germain and his friends Henri Giroux and Yvon Brunet then set out to make those weeks so agreeable that Lewis will not want to leave, learning his tastes, tapping his telephone and leaving money where he will find it.

- Producer Roger Frappier wanted to shoot Seducing Doctor Lewis in Newfoundland, but the film was instead made on Harrington Harbour, Quebec, an island of about 300 people. Its producers felt the island looked too pretty to pass as a fishing village in hard times, so they made it look worse on screen.
