Ruth Warrick

Ruth Warrick was an American actress and singer who began her career as a radio singer in New York City, where a high school essay contest brought her as Missouri's paid ambassador. Orson Welles hired her for her film debut as Emily Monroe Norton in Citizen Kane (1941), and she went on to appear in Guest in the House, Song of the South and Daisy Kenyon. Her film work grew sporadic by the late 1940s, though she starred in One Too Many (1950). She then built a long career in television serials, playing Janet Johnson on The Guiding Light from 1953 to 1954 and Edith Hughes on As the World Turns until 1960, and earned an Emmy nomination for Peyton Place in 1967. From 1970 she played Phoebe Tyler Wallingford on All My Children until her death in 2005.
