Michele Lee
Biography
Michele Lee is an American actress who began on Broadway and became best known for a long-running television role. Born in Los Angeles in 1942, she started her career in Broadway productions of Vintage 60 and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, then made her movie debut in the 1967 film version of the latter. Her film work includes The Love Bug (1968), The Comic (1969), and Along Came Polly (2004). She played Karen Fairgate MacKenzie on Knots Landing, appearing in all 344 episodes, and earned an Emmy nomination in 1982 plus three Soap Opera Digest Awards for best actress. She later directed episodes of the series and starred in the 1998 TV film Scandalous Me: The Jacqueline Susann Story. Her stage credits brought Tony nominations for Seesaw in 1974 and The Tale of the Allergist's Wife in 2001, and she played Madame Morrible in Wicked in 2015.

Lee's first television work came when she was 19, in a December 26, 1961, episode of the CBS sitcom The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.
First role
In 1974, Lee played Michele Burton, a hotel newsstand clerk, in the pilot of a proposed CBS sitcom called The Michele Lee Show. Only that pilot episode aired, and the series did not proceed.
Beyond film
Lee sang "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" in a 1969 television production of the musical Roberta and reached No. 52 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "L. David Sloane."
