Mabel Karr

Mabel Karr was an Argentine actress who built her career in Spain. Born in Buenos Aires, she began as a model, appeared in photo stories and worked in Argentine television before moving to Spain in 1958 to take part in Red Cross Girls (1958), a Rafael J. Salvia film whose four leading women, among them Conchita Velasco, Luz Márquez and Katia Loritz, gained a burst of popularity from it. She settled in Spain, where she made Violent Fate (1958) for José María Forqué and the romantic comedy Valentine's Day (1959), a box office success of the period. Through the 1970s she worked steadily in Spanish cinema across widely different genres, alongside stage appearances in plays such as Un paraguas bajo la lluvia and Un espíritu burlón, and television work. She stepped back from acting in 1975 and returned to it in 1996. She died in 2001.
