Gunnel Lindblom
Biography
Gunnel Lindblom was an actress who trained at the Gothenburg City Theatre between 1950 and 1952 and broke through in Gustaf Molander's Kärlek (1952). After Ingmar Bergman took over the Malmö City Theatre, he invited her into the company, and she played Margareta in Goethe's Faust under his direction. Bergman cast her in supporting parts in his own films too, including the mute woman of The Seventh Seal (1957). Later he gave her the opportunity to direct, and her film Paradistorg (1977) drew praise internationally, with Time magazine naming it one of the four best non-American movies of 1978. She spent many years with The Royal Dramatic Theatre, taking roles in plays by August Strindberg and William Shakespeare, had a part in the children's television series Kaspar i Nudådalen (2001), and in 2002 was honored with a Guldbagge award recognizing her lifetime achievements in film.
