Glenn Anders

Glenn Anders was an American actor known for his stage work. Born in Los Angeles in 1889, he trained at the Wallace Dramatic School there and began in repertory theater before touring in vaudeville on the Orpheum circuit. He arrived in New York in 1919, studied at Columbia University, and made his Broadway debut that year in Just Around the Corner. In 1921 he took the male lead in the hit farce The Demi-Virgin. His Broadway career included roles in three Pulitzer Prize winning plays: Hell Bent for Heaven (1924), They Knew What They Wanted (1924), and Strange Interlude (1928). He also appeared in Dynamo (1929), Hotel Universe (1930), Another Language (1932), Skylark (1939), Soldier's Wife (1944), and Light Up the Sky (1948), and gave his final Broadway performance in Time Remembered in 1958. He made a handful of film and television appearances, most notably as a scheming lawyer in The Lady from Shanghai (1947), and in M (1951).
