Gary Bond
Biography
Gary Bond was an English actor born in Hampshire who began his career on the stage after training at London's Central School of Speech and Drama. His first professional job came with the Connaught Theatre in Worthing at age 23, and his breakthrough arrived in 1962 when he played Pip in the Royal Court's Chips with Everything, a production that transferred to Broadway the following year. He later joined the Prospect Theatre Company and the Royal Shakespeare Company, taking on classical roles. In 1972 he originated the part of Joseph in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and in 1978 he succeeded David Essex as Che in the London production of Evita. On screen, he made his debut in Zulu (1964) as Private Cole, appeared as Mark Smeaton in Anne of the Thousand Days (1969), and starred as John Grant in the Australian film Wake in Fright (1971). He died in 1995.

Early training
Gary Bond won a scholarship to London's Central School of Speech and Drama, where he earned the Elsie Fogerty Prize for the Best Individual Performance by a Man.
First role
At 23, Bond landed his first acting role at the Connaught Theatre in Worthing. He made his debut there in the play Not in the Book.
Big break
Bond's big break came in 1962 when he was cast as Pip in the Royal Court's production of Chips with Everything, directed by John Dexter, which transferred to Broadway the next year.
A first
In late August 1972, Bond originated Joseph in the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Frank Dunlop directed the Young Vic Theatre Company production, which premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Bond recorded "Disillusion Me" as a single. The song was written for him by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Getting ready for a role
