Doris Dowling

Doris Dowling was an American actress who began on the Broadway stage as a chorus girl before heading to Hollywood, where her first credited screen role came as Gloria, the escort who takes an interest in Ray Milland's character in The Lost Weekend (1945). She followed it with The Blue Dahlia (1946), playing Alan Ladd's wife. With work scarce after the war, she moved to Italy, where she starred in Bitter Rice (1949) and appeared as Bianca in Orson Welles's European production of Othello (1951). Back in the United States, her later credits included Running Target (1956) and The Car (1977), along with theater and television work. She played Irene Adams on the sitcom My Living Doll and appeared in many series, and in 1972 and 1973 she shared an Outer Critics Circle Award for the Broadway revival of The Women.
