Plot summary
A woman in a red dress is found drowned on the Tokyo waterfront, and the case falls to Noboru Yoshioka, a veteran detective. The autopsy shows her stomach full of seawater. The evidence he gathers keeps turning toward himself: a button from the scene matches one missing from his coat, and the fingerprints match his own. He concludes that the only viable suspect is himself, yet he remembers nothing of the killing. A ghost in a red dress then begins to appear to him, and more murders follow, each one a person killing a loved one over a small infraction. Yoshioka finds those perpetrators himself as he works the original case.
